Issue #124

Markets Rally, But Tensions Still Simmer

Risk assets just notched one of their best weeks, fueled by Trump’s surprise move to pause tariffs for 90 days (excluding China). Tech’s escape from the crosshairs of the U.S.-China trade war gave markets a much-needed boost — but don’t get too cozy.

Despite the rally, the two largest economies are still throwing punches in an open trade war, keeping global markets volatile and unpredictable. The bond market felt it first — yields surged around Liberation Day and pulled back after the announcement. Volatility’s not going anywhere.

Heads up: It’s a short trading week with U.S. and U.K. markets closed on Friday and Monday. All eyes are on tomorrow’s main event — the ECB is expected to cut rates again.
